Steps to take to start a new DevOps team

Step 1

the very first step is to get a Product Owner. He is representing the business and he have the trust and the mandate from the business to make decisions on priorities.

This PO should be educated before he can start.

Step 2

Identify his/her Stakeholders and make his Product Backlog. If possible, at least, raw estimate, 6 to 12 months work in the Product Backlog.

Step 3

Based on complexity of the IT environment, application landscape and budget (Remember, fixed team and fixed cost) Identify, with your stakeholders, what roles and what size this DevOps team would be. (size of the team not less than 3 members and not bigger than 9 members)

Step 4

Arrange training and education for the stakeholders and the team. And do a Kick On session with the whole team. The whole team should be on 1 location for at least 3 months.
